Smith, JD, RCC, is a seasoned legal, government
affairs, and political professional with more than 25 years
of experience navigating the treacherous waters where law,
politics, government, media, and public opinion converge.
The "JD" behind his name
signifies that Alan has a Juris Doctor (law) degree. The
"RCC" is recognition of his certification as a Registered
Corporate Coach™
by the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches.

In the crucibles of the courtroom, corporate and government
corridors of power, and the political battlefield, Alan has
discovered and used to great effect the knowable, demanding,
ironclad laws of momentum.
Today, applying his unique
brand of Momentum Thinking™,
Alan coaches executives and political leaders, and consults with
them and the organizations they lead, to enable them to go from good
to great, from success
to significance.
Highlights of Alan's professional experience:

Attorney: A graduate of the
University of San Diego School of Law,
Alan has had a wide range of
experience providing strategic legal counsel to individuals,
businesses, non-profits, and trade associations, helping clients
large and small prevent or solve problems, negotiating
challenging transactions, settling seemingly intractable
disputes, and (when all else fails) successfully litigating on
their behalf.

Government Affairs Professional:
Working at federal, state, regional, and local
levels, Alan has successfully advocated on behalf of individuals, businesses, non-profits, and trade associations on
issues as diverse as
tort reform, biotechnology, genetically
modified foods, medical device, microlending, housing,
homelessness, transportation, water, and nuclear waste disposal.
He has also served as a field representative for one of
California's most senior legislators, serving as liaison with
local elected officials and community groups in a territory
approximately 250 miles North-to-South and 190 miles East-to-West.

Political Strategist: Specializing in message, communications,
media relations, and
the management of
complex political operations, Alan has been a senior advisor to,
and political operative for, candidates for Congress, State
Senate, State Assembly, District Attorney, City Council, and
School Board. He has also served as executive director for
one of the largest year-round political operations in America
and managed a ground-breaking, fast-paced, half-million
dollar member communications program for one of
the most
effective county political party operations in America.

University Professor: Alan has
taught political science and business law to undergraduate
students, business ethics to MBA students, and "power, politics
and influence" in an executive studies program leading to
the degree of Masters of Science in Leadership.

Civic Leader: Alan has served in leadership
positions in prominent community organizations such as Acción
San Diego (microlending), American Cancer Society, Foundation
for a Quality San Diego (regional transportation issues), LEAD
San Diego (civic leadership training and development), San Diego
Business Roundtable for Education, San Diego's California
Ballet, United Way of San Diego County, and Uptown Interfaith
Service Center (inter-denominational ministry to the homeless)
Alan is a member in good standing of
the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches, the National Speakers
Association, the American Association of Political Consultants, and
The State Bar of California.
